Overview

Sprawling on the edge of the Northern Kenyan Frontier, stretching from the slopes of Mount Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley, is the Laikipia Plateau. A natural haven made up of ranches and conservancies, over time conservationists have made an effort to create a place for communities and wildlife to exist hand in hand to maintain and protect biodiversity in the region.

Vast open plains in the shadow of the snow-capped silhouette of Mount Kenya create a tranquil and secluded setting, where game drives encounter wildlife including endangered species such as black rhino, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and wild dogs with few other vehicles in sight

Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Loisaba Tented Camp is designed to take advantage of unhindered views across the Laikipia Plateau’s breath-taking landscape, all the way to the peaks of Mount Kenya.

What we love about Loisaba Tented Camp

  • Swap a horseback safari for a fun-filled camel walk – the more adventurous can extend this activity and partake in an overnight camel camp excursion.

  • Grab a mountain bike and head out with your guide along one of the trails in the conservancy.

  • Gain first-hand knowledge of the all-important, anti-poaching initiatives within the conservancy and meet the team of trackers and their well-trained dogs.

Experiences

Game Driving Day and Night

Loisaba's abundant wildlife across is rolling landscape is truly wild. Loisaba is a corridor of an elephant migration route, and holds a healthy population of lion as well as notable northern species such as the Grevy zebra, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. Loisaba is also a home range for the rare and special wild dog.

Guided Bush Walks

Leaving the car behind for a bush walk allows an up-close and intimate experience of nature. Take a walk with one of Loisaba's excellent guides, and learn how to recognise animal signs and tracks, appreciate the smaller creatures and flora of Africa, all while enjoying the surroundings at a slower pace.

Horse Riding

Horse riding provides a chance to experience wildlife from a different perspective. Trotting through herds of zebra, impala or giraffe is an exhilarating experience. Loisaba's horses are bush-raised and trained, allowing you to get close to the wildlife.

Camel Trekking

Camels are a sight synonymous with Kenya's northern regions. Enjoy a ride on a traditional mode of transport along the Ewaso Nyiro river or across the plains.

Cultural Visits

The Samburu of Northern Kenya, a pastoralist tribe, are renowned for their colourful and impressive dress. Guests to Loisaba are invited to visit a local Samburu village to learn about the Samburu people and their culture.
